It’s been a while since my last post, I’m on vacation and won’t come back before the new year:P It’s been a good start for the blog and my comeback at Darkfall. I wish you the best for this xmas and I’m leaving you with this picture:

First Week Review

With the first week of Darkfall, an expansion and a hotfix behind me it’s time to write a small review! The expansion was a great addition to the game, the magic spam was reduced to bearable and everyone now can choose some of the melee and archery specializations! The ai after the hotfix is pretty much ok and scalable! Enjoy the pve with good loot and a dose of difficulty! I have yet to see naval combats and sea fortress sieges but this will come with my recruitment to a clan!

Moreover my toon, as an orc i have reached the skill of 2h axe at 40 with lesser magic at almost 80 and archery at 50. I spent most of the time exploring the orc lands doing quests and socializing with all the new faces. The starting areas are quite populated the last days with the expansion and the greek-only trials so you can always get pked from some random dude!

Although the expansion and it’s additions were succesful and many people returned to the game, it’s necessary to pinpoint the problems AV facing with the patching process and the poor work of the QA department, especially the wandering mobs don’t work very well for the moment and they are pretty much de-synced but after the first week of patching everything will be as it should!

With only 2  days left for the expansion to be released we had  an other surpise  from AV! Darkfall is going gold at Greece! Yeap it’s true! December the 18th Darkfall will be in Greek stores  and then it will be released all over Europe (and USA??)!  The box includes the game, a 32 page manual and a free month at the price of 50 euros! Hope for a collectors edition too!!

A place to call home…

Not really…Every year more and more game-rehub clinics are opening and thats something we have to worry about! Is it so hard to stop playing your favorite game? Are games so much addictive or do we want them to be? It’s a tricky question and like any addiction its hard to admit even to yourself! Most of the single player games won’t take more than 70 hours to complete and games like Call of Duty will take just an afternoon to complete the campaign.

On the other hand, multiplayer part of the games most of the time will take much longer to reach most of the goals but usually you’ll get bored before even reach them.  MMOs thought are not in the same case,  the are meant to never end and always give you something to play with, call it new raids, new items to take, or even more options of gameplay. Is this what makes us addicted? That we always want the new “best”? Everyone will say that it’s just a game and we can stop playing any time, it’s just a hobby like everything else but is it really? When you reach the 5000 hours of online gameplay like Tobold did, or like many of us did,  I had a record of 150 days of playtime when i stopped playing wow and we all know ppl with more that this!  Is it time to take a break and think about it? It’s not about the money because we want to play our favorite game and it makes us happy. Is it healthy thought? Aren’t there any better things to spend time for?

At the end of the day what does differentiate us from all the other addicts?

So what we have for today from AV? Let’s start off by the realease date of the expansion “Conquer the Seas” set to be Thursday December 3d and the patching will last as long as 24 hours! Don’t be afraid of your paid playtime as Tasos said that they will refund users as needed! Tasos also gave an interiview about the expansion and Darkfall’s future at MMORPG you should give it a read! Last but not least we have news on the siege mechanics, more on the matter you can read here Spotlight.

First Day!

After a quick present i made to an alfar, got my mats gear and mounts on my old toon and went for a ride; needless to say that after 5 mins i was dead:P. Then I created my orc, red hair and a war tattoo on his face, i was ready to start again my adventures in the lands of Agon! I got the starting quests by talking to the goblin npc next to the city gate and here I go again on my own… Using my mighty mana missiles to pick goblins out of the pack ending their life with my 2h axe,  in no time i had a pile of good stuff, some weapons cloths and some mats i decided to return to the city to bank my staff and get my rewards from the quests! I was so happy with the game at this moment, not for anything but for the freedom i had from the first moment i logged in, during my adventures at aion i always felt like i was guided somewhere, farm here then move one to the next area take all the quests farm there and move on.  In Darkfall thought after the first 6 picture-tutorial you can do whatever you want! Join a clan, lots of them are recruiting, move to their city and adventure with them or stay at the starting areas to develope your character! Start gathering materials to craft weapons armor or whatever! Ending you shouldn’t worry about your armor is now how you have used to! Whatever a mob wears and uses will be yours after its death so even if you lose some gear in a fight you will be back in no time! Thats all for now, i have to go back to darkfall for some killin:P

Back to Darkfall!

So after some quick thoughts I’m in the game, or not yet patching time…So i have to decide now what i want to do keep my toon or start over? I haven’t progressed him much so it won’t be a problem! But let’s take a closer look at the reasons behind my returning to Agon,  first of all the reduced grind! One of the main reason that many ppl left the game was the grind and the necessity to macro your skills up so you can enjoy the pvp! Hopefully it won’t be a problem again, so what else to look forward? According to the spotlights many features have been added to the game and many more have been fixed or  revamped. First we have the sea towers wich are going to bring new purpose to the naval combat, also new ships are coming with most of their problems fixed! Players won’t be able to outrun ships and the new collision detection system won’t help them at all:P The AI of the mobs will be fleshed out more and will give a greater adventure! Roamings npcs and caravans will be added to the game wich will bring more life to Agon especially with the addition of more fluff for the kids to play with. The gambling addicts will get slot machines so the can spend their money in their pursuit of happiness and we can spend time killing them and emptying their pockets! Sea houses will be introduced so everyone can  taste  how’s  life at our sunny Greece  and add a tactical advantage to clans owning them, helping them defend or attack the towers mentioned above!These are some of the reasons of my returning hope you join too!
